LG has officially launched its new smartphones today. Both LG Optimus One and Optimus Chic possess Android 2.2 (Froyo) and have numerous Google Mobile Services like Google Voice Search, Google Maps etc.
Obviously, LG is trying to attract potential customers who are buying a smartphone for the first time. Optimus Chic's design follows the Samsung way of sleek and stylish while preserving the same features of Optimus One
Also, the fact that Android is the operating system of the device shows that LG wants to play safe. The increasing popularity of Google's Android makes it a good bet for LG. However, Android Gingerbread, a newer version than Froyo, is poised to be released during year-end so this launch seems a bit too late
I don't think LG will be able to pull this off. Other brands are expected to unveil new phones when the end of the year draws closer. Moreover, it made record loss from the handset market last quarter
These new phones don't look like the revival pill LG needs. Apple's over-hyped and ultra-glorified iPhone as well as HTC will still be the dominant players
