interesting facts about the school

After two weeks of a new semester, I discovered some interesting facts about the school and everything else related to it

1. More people are walking in groups nowadays. I seldom see a guy walking alone by himself. If I do, then most probably that guy would be myself

2. My gems lecturer is a doctor. Not as in medical terms but she obtained a doctorate during her studying days. Anyway, she looks very familiar as though I had ever met her before but can't recall when was that. My heart tells me that my dad knows her too in some way or another. Maybe it was a quarrel between both of them

3. My DBMS lecturer's niece is Jasmine Tye, that girl who finished third in the second season of Singapore Idol. Her surname is also Tye by the way. But who still remembers J. Tye now? I was more interested in the tutorial then getting an autograph

4. Zhiteng thinks that Nas is an Indian from India. For more than one and a half years, Mr China has been thinking that our Indian classmate was a citizen from the land of IT experts. We were talking about passports and he thought Nas holds an India one. Oh come on, Singapore is multi-racial unlike China

5. Nas doesn't seem to scare Zhiteng anymore. Back in January, I came up with a formula. Nas + -(go school) = Zhi Teng + 5(talk), integrate it and you will get, Nas + go school = Zhi Teng + 0.5(talk). This formula is of no use anymore because Zhiteng talks a lot even when Nas is beside him. Nas, what happened to your superiority?

6. The vending machines are all idiots. I pressed for chrysanthemum tea, nothing happened. Pressed again, still nothing happened. I opted for soya milk instead and a Coke Light came tumbling out followed by my change. Another one of a similar model dispenses cold drinks which were hot. What happened to the cooling thing inside it?

7. The newspaper corner in the library is an excellent place to take a nap. Silence is observed by (almost) everyone. The armchair there is three times more comfortable than any raised surface used to sit on found in my house. It is at a corner so there an increased amount of privacy. There are always empty seats. Just don't let the library staff catch you

8. Mcdonald's is flooded with people every day. Maybe it's because of the Monopoly thing that's why everyone is queuing to order a meal and try their luck to see if they got the highly sought-after Sentosa Cove game piece. By the way, the auntie did not make a blunder on Monday when she gave me 16 game pieces as an upsize meal entitles you to eight game labels(2 games pieces per label)

9. There are so many things waiting for me to discover so I better go find them out now. Bye

Apec Shirts

Yesterday, the organizers of Apec Singapore 2009 presented the shirts which world leaders will be wearing for the traditional leaders' group photo during the summit

Only the male attire was displayed at the press conference as the female ones are still in the process of making. The men, including Barack Obama, could choose from three different colours, green, blue and red

It looked like a disaster to me never mind that the material is linen and silk with embroidery decor that looks like a lotus flower

Upon looking at the green one, it reminded me of Mao Zedong. Very military, very archaic, very Mao-inspired. The blue one looks like a suitable choice of attire if one has to attend a funeral. The red one is just the normal CNY uniform you will see people wearing during the start of a new Lunar year

In a whole, the colours were rather dull. Taking into consideration that most of the leaders will wear black or dark-coloured pants, the overall image portrayed will be even more mundane. Doesn't look modern at all but that was what the designer claimed

The 2006 one in Vietnam was memorable where George Bush and co. donned the local traditional outfits

Survey/Cheat Money

OMG! SP is making us do this kind of survey! The problem is not the amount of questions which the students need to answer but the type of questions. Click on the image to have a closer look

They are asking questions which may be controversial, questions which may stir up ill feelings towards rival schools, NP in particular since both schools are the giants from the west. Until now, I still can't think of anything to enter in the fields for the other polys. For SP, the phrase "cheat money" first crossed my mind when I had to ponder for two words. But I thought, if I were an RP, VJC, or Lasalle student, I would have written the same thing about my school too

Guess I'm too paranoid after all

I have never trusted all the schools which I had ever went to. I mean in terms of financial matters of course. Especially in TSS, I always had a feeling that I got ripped off after making a payment to the treasurer or teacher. Like the excursion to Science Centre four years ago, we were made to hand over four bucks including one dollar for the transport

I wanted to take the public bus with Jian Nan as it was cheaper (55 cents) but the teacher refused to agree. So in the end, we were all made to pay one dollar for a short ride from West Coast to Jurong East via Pandan Gardens. If the destination was Punggol, I believe it will still be one dollar. So obviously, we were sort of scammed by our school

Back to the survey, I really don't see how answering those questions will aid the school in improving the environment in the campus. Since I don't get the point, I think I will try to come up with some creative and funny answers. Any ideas?

Actually, the survey is not obligatory but I just like doing surveys. Who cares? They never take your opinions seriously even if you criticize something about them. At the end of the day, there is still zero improvement but we are still paying the same amount of school fees

Ok, what is that phrase again which crossed my mind?

Fan

Dear Fan

I am sorry to overtire you for the past few days. Please do not blame me, blame it on the hot weather. Whenever I am in the room, I will have to switch you on as I perspire from head to toe non-stop

When I sleep at night, I switch you on for ten hours. When I do my work in the room, I switch you on again. When I take an afternoon nap, I will switch you on yet again. You must be feeling very frustrated right?

You have been a part of my home for more than a decade, maybe close to two even. Whenever I need you, you are always there to produce airflow to cool me down

You rotate your vanes continuously to create air currents without making any complains of giddiness. This carries on forever until I press the red zero button. Sometimes in the middle of the night when it is not so hot anymore, I can't be bothered to get up and switch you off as I am too lazy to do it. But you never protest

You don't have any public holidays except during the colder days in December and January. You must be on standby 24/7 365 days around the year

I salute you. You will always be loved. Ok maybe I shall switch on the air-con tonight and give you a day-off

Regards
Your owner

Mcdonald's Monopoly

Call it a coincidence but I beg to differ. I saw eight different people wearing a Liverpool jersey in school today. There was a Torres, Carragher, Johnson, two Gerrards and three other nameless ones. One of the eight was even a girl

Well, they have every reason to be wearing a Reds jersey because of yesterday's match. I won nine dollars in total from bets with several people, mainly Man U fans. I shall stop rubbing the salt into your wound in case you are a Red Devil supporter reading this blog

Had Mcdonald's for lunch today. The reason is because I want to collect the title deeds for the current Singapore Monopoly contest by the fast food chain

Zhiteng and I each bought an extra value meal with upsize. So we should get eight title deeds in total according to the rules. But the auntie gave us sixteen

I think it is because there was a long queue and she was kind of kancheong so just tore out eight rows of title deeds(two per row)and handed them to us. I did not realize it until I finished the french fries and burger and we were like two lunatics celebrating that we had struck Toto. We shared them equally among ourselves

Here's what I have opened. If you want to exchange any one with me, feel free to do so provided if it is suitable

Wedding Dinner/Gliding Squirrel

Yesterday night, I went to attend a wedding dinner at Regent Hotel. It was my mum's dad's brother's daughter's daughter wedding banquet. In short, it is called a distant relative's event

Ok the food still can make it, at least better than Hilton's one. I did not take any photos as I don't see the need to unlike many other typical bloggers. About the photo-taking part, I would like to elaborate further

Everybody, all dressed smartly and elegantly, was busy taking pictures with one another. For me, I was only interested in snapping photos of the beautiful toilet I visited for three times throughout the evening

It was really classy-looking and ravishing. So attractive that it made me ransack my pocket for my camera phone. Unfortunately, there was always at least one person inside there so it was inconvenient to snap a shot. In the end, I didn't manage to take a photo. Felt quite regretful

Today I saw a gliding squirrel for the first time in my life. At first I thought I spotted a kite when travelling around the Seletar Reservior area. But the kite had a head and it "flew" from tree to tree like a bat

Didn't take any photos again because this time my phone was switched off and I believe that by the time it is on the animal would be gone by then

It is Monday again. Yeah...

Liverpool versus Manchester United

It has been a really long time since I last wrote about football. Every soccer fan's mind will no doubt be thinking about the above match this week regardless of whichever club they support

Other than the intense rivalry of both English clubs that will attract many people to watch, there is also another reason. Michael Owen the Liverpool legend. He will be back at the Kop but in a Manchester United jersey

Anfield will be the venue of this fiery encounter but I don't think anyone is afraid of playing at this stadium anymore. The diehard Reds supporter will tell you that the spectators who are also the twelve man can suck the ball into the opposition's net when they cheer loud and enthusiastically enough

These are all myths, Liverpool myths. The truth is the Red Devils are in good form currently whereas their rivals are on a four match losing streak in all competitions. To add on to Liverpool manager Rafael Benitez's woes, his star players might not be able to make it for the match due to injuries

Alex Ferguson's team also have their injury concerns but there is depth in their squad. He has players on the bench whom he can rely on when they are needed. Unlike Liverpool, when someone in the team falls, there is always another Man U player ready to take over him

Steven Gerrard and co. will be the ones wearing red for this game but it will do them no favour since he and strike partner, Fernando Torres is heavily relied on to win matches. Man U have shrugged off criticism that they cannot cope with C.Ronaldo. Many of their forwards can win a game on their own

Manchester United can hurt Liverpool in many ways and the most notable one would be to expose the weakness of their midfield defence

Javier Mascherano is still a pale shadow of himself last season. Maybe Diego Maradona's roller-coaster management of the Argentinian national team is still reeling in Mascherano's mind when he is back in England

The Argentinian's partner at the centre of the park is ahem ahem, Lucas Leiva. Enough has been said of this guy. No, he is really improving, at least one man will agree so and he is none other than the eccentric Benitez. If Liverpool were to be classified as the Chinese Zodiac, Benitez would surely be the goat. As stubborn as a mule by insisting that Lucas is better than before

I think Alberto Aquilani will make his long-awaited debut for the Reds in this match by playing alongside Mascherano while supporting Gerrard from behind. If he gives a good performance, there goes Lucas' chances of starting in a game except for Carling Cup matches

The evergreen Paul Scholes, energetic Anderson and indefatigable Darren Fletcher are all capable of creating havoc and expose the layer of protection for the back four. Even Dimitar Berbatov, who is really improving, can track back in a supporting role to help out.

Vice versa, Liverpool can also hurt Manchester United. How should they do it then? Well, the recent form of centre-backs Nemanja Vidic and Rio Ferdinand are not so positive. Ferdinand looks like he is challenging for the year's defensive blunder award in many matches this season

Vidic is fairly better but most people who watched the previous meeting of both sides at Old Trafford should still remember how Torres equalized. Vidic was slow at turning around and allowed the Liverpool star to run past him and gain possession from a high ball which led to a goal

If Aquilani can float several beautiful long balls upfront with his fine passing and Gerrard(provided if he's fit) has regained his momentum for long range shots, Edwin van der Sar will have a busy afternoon. Even if Torres is unavailable, Ryan Babel should give the United defence a headache too with his pace

These are the probable line-ups for both teams. I hope Benitez will use a formation that will benefit everyone especially himself

Liverpool(4-2-3-1):Reina, Johnson, Carragher, Agger, Aurelio; Mascherano, Aquilani; Kuyt, Gerrard, Babel; Torres

Manchester United(4-4-2):van der Sar, O'Shea, Ferdinand, Vidic, Evra; Valencia, Anderson, Carrick, Giggs; Berbatov, Owen

Even though I wish for a Liverpool win, I have to be practical thus I predict a goalless stalemate for both sides. Maybe someone will get a red card. Oh yes, a beach ball might appear again

意難忘

意難忘-The Unforgettable Memory is coming to an end soon and it is for real this time. Come tomorrow afternoon, the last episode will be aired on Channel 8 at 4.30pm

This Taiwanese drama consists of a whopping 872 episodes and it has been part and parcel of many Singaporean housewives' daily lives for the past three years

I used to watch it every afternoon too but ever since 2008, I hardly catch it except if there is nothing else to entertain me. It is really a long-winded show from my experience of watching it, typical-Taiwanese style

All the complains and grumbles about when will the drama end will come to a stop at last. It has been a love-hate affair between the show and its viewers

Actually, I cannot believe that the penultimate episode is already over(this afternoon). Only one more episode is left for us to cherish before we can concentrate on following 爱-Love (another lengthy Taiwan drama) full-time every weekend

If I do watch it tomorrow, I believe that it will bring the memories of secondary school education life. Classes in the morning and back home during mid-afternoon. Enough time to shower, eat, do some work, sleep and then watch TV

It will be an unforgettable memory

21 Oct

Today was an ordinary day. Attended Maths lesson in the morning. The lecturer was the gentle kind of teacher, the type which students tend to bully. That's my first impression of her so it is still early before I see her true colours

Ok, she is definitely better than the old witch whom I unluckily got last year. Jerry asked me to take photos of the Maths teacher like what we did during old witch's lesson last year. I told him that I need Nas the professional photographer who can take better pictures than me

The topic was on the proving trigo identities thing and it reminded me of Portia Tan who was unable to solve (prove) one question three years back in class. It was question 17 in the A Maths textbook if I am not wrong

For your information, Miss Portia was my Maths teacher. In the end, I think she did manage to solve the question but it was during another lesson

In the afternoon, it was gems class. My gem was Sun Zi art of war. The lecturer did not teach anything, just went through the overview of the module and asked everyone to stand up and introduce themselves

That's all for today

Windows 7 launch

There are no lessons on Tuesdays according to my timetable so I can save $1.38 (69, 69) on transport fare provided if I stayed at home which I did so today. Continued doing more maths questions to keep my brain active and tried getting inspiration for the design of the movie poster by taking an afternoon nap

Microsoft is slated to release Windows 7 on Thursday(October 22), less than three years after the release of its predecessor, Vista. Will it be Oct 22 be Redemption Day for Microsoft? Windows Vista has received substantial criticism from reviewers and users for a long time

I think people who favour Windows Vista over Windows XP have something special and unique about the way their brain functions. From being vulnerable to cold boot attacks to draining laptop battery at a faster rate to its reliability with all the added features and complexity

Windows XP is still the (most)people's choice for operating systems excluding the loyal Macintosh fans. It is better than Vista in everything except that I can't seem to place icons wherever I like on the desktop unlike Vista

So far, Windows 7 has received a fair number of positive reviews which is encouraging since the pressure is on Microsoft to appease users with a better OS. CNet gives Windows 7 Home Premium a rating of 4.5/5 stars, stating that "it is more than what Vista should have been, (and) it's where Microsoft needed to go."

I think that is the reason why my school has yet to upgrade to Windows Vista since last year when I first purchased my laptop. Maybe it wanted to wait until 22/10/2009 to "jump" over Vista and to Windows 7

19 Oct

Back to school after a long yet short period of time. Discovered that there were some changes in the campus. They include renovation works at several places and the addition of other things. The most significant one which I found out was the makeover of Foodcourt 3

It was newly renovated. Nice decor, new lightings, good ambience and presumably more seats. Everything in it was new except for the same old stalls selling the same old food. So not much of a change after all. Had a hard time deciding on what to order to fill up my stomach as I am bored with all the stalls already. In the end, I settled on the ubiquitous chap cai peng aka mixed vegetable rice

Well, it is just a meal and it's only the first day so it does not really what choice I made. Somehow or rather, thinking back about what happened earlier in the day, I find that it tasted really good. The warmth and familiarity one experiences when eating something simple yet scrumptious

Did some maths questions after reaching home, it has been a long time since I racked my brains to solve mathematical problems and the experience was somehow also a pleasant one. That's very positive

18 Oct

Some SP students had completed their compulsory six-week ITP. Most of them or rather all of them whom I know say they had finally waited for it to end. It seems that they cannot wait for it to be over, for me I cannot wait for mine to start which will occur in March 2010. Just like what the school says, the objective of it is to provide opportunities for students to experience the work environment. Yes that's what I am looking out for and not stone in a classroom with a group of people whom you don't know if you can get along with

Since school is starting soon, please take note that I may not update this blog as frequently as the past few weeks. But do drop by when you are free to check it out ok?

Hope the morning bus will not be too packed and affect my respiration

Cultural Medallion

The reason why I did not blog yesterday was because my internet speed was unusually tardy. The slowness of the bandwidth speed was similar or maybe fairly better than those found in Western Africa

Unhappy things aside, this blog congratulates You Jin and the other three winners for clinching this year's Cultural Medallion for their achievements in arts

Out of this year's four winners, I only know You Jin and I am a fan of her. Ironically, I only have one book written by her which is "Beancurds don't lie"(direct translation from Mandarin). It is a collection of many short and simple stories with "substance". Beancurds don't lie is just one of the many stories in it. If you want to know why beancurds do not lie, I can lend you the book to find out

I had also dreamt of receiving this Singapore cultural award. As for which category, I believe art is out of the way because no one ever appreciates the monster-looking creatures I drew. Dance is still a long way for me unless moonwalk is counted. Photography is not my cup of tea. We can cancel out music as well since it is related to dance

So most probably, if ever one day, I do receive the the Cultural Medallion, it should be film or literature. I love filming and writing and hope that the latter will be recognized through my hard work in this blog

Acer Sucks

OMG! Acer has rised to become the number two PC maker in the world, pushing Dell to third position. What kind of research did industry tracker IDC made to rank that Taiwan-based multinational electronics manufacturer as runner-up?

HP is still the champion since they toppled Dell three years ago. Lenovo from China and Japan's Toshiba complete the top five. Apple is suspiciously missing from the global top five but is still outpacing the market with shipments increasing by 11.8 percent

Acer is seriously the world's worst computer brand, how could it be at the top with the elites like HP and co? As the popular phrase goes, "Acer sucks". You don't hear people saying "Dell sucks" or "Asus Sucks". There are even groups in Facebook which condemns Acer, one of them was joined by me

Just a couple of days ago, news broke out that three of the five models of Acer laptop computers recalled by the Taiwanese brand for overheating problems are being sold in Singapore and affected, as reported by The Straits Times

Their call centre fairs no better than their products. That everlasting female voice aka answering machine repeats the same old thing over and over again while you wait for your call to be answered by the next available agent. One more thing, that recorded voice can only receive a pass in an oral examination. It does not have that necessary ang moh accent in it

Ironically, I own two Acer computers, a laptop for work and desktop at home, because of my greed. I purchased them at bargain deals only to get a performance with a bargain too. I am typing on a Dell PC by the way at the moment, in case you are curious

Most users (or victims) of a Acer product would agree with me. And together, we will shout "Acer Sucks!!!" The only place where you can hear people saying another computer brand sucks should be in an Acer office or factory. But they are just bluffing themselves

I wanted to post an anti-Acer picture but on second thought I think I better not

14 Oct

Aiyah, damn it!

Every Wednesday I will be suffering from a mental block which means I am lacking inspiration to blog. Usually can deliver quality posts on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays but not on Wednesdays. Strange right? I bet it is got to do with fengshui and all other superstitious stuff

Well, Sun Zi's art of war strategy states that the ultimate strategy is to win without even fighting, through detailed planning and strategizing. Blogging is the same too. You have to think before you write or rather brainstorm before writing. Tired of seeing those posts by your friends where they will just say "it is XX days since I last updated" or "I am feeling sick now...very tired"

If you are sick/tired go rest, why are you still in front of your computer desperately typing that one useless sentence when you should be resting? Lifeless people. I am sick of knowing that you people are sick, sickening retards

Ok, managed to fill up today's post with more words than expected thanks to my ranting. So this is the main advantage of having a blog, you can complain whatever nonsense you like and still accomplish something

Balloon

If you are aware of the news about a South Korean anti-communist group planning to attach 300 pocket radios to balloons and drop them in North Korea, to help people tune in to South Korean broadcasts, then you should continue to read. If you are not, then do continue to read too

The announcement is likely to irritate the North Korean government, which has previously protested against propaganda leaflets sent via balloons by South Korean activists

The balloons look something like these(I couldn't find the exact picture)

I was thinking of this. What if we had these in Singapore and could drop them at our neighbour Malaysia

I would print out pictures of chilli crab, chicken rice, bak kut teh etc and write the words "These food belong to you, as what you claimed, come and accept them!"

Luckily my country does not have ministers who talk without thinking

Monday, October 12, 2009

Yesterday was the day my sec four class had a gathering for the first time in three years. Although only half of the class turned up, I believe the joy and laughter we had had more than made up for the lack of numbers. The location was Seoul Garden and it was my first time there

I think I will not go into detail about the event. Well, just want to say that there wasn't really any good stuff to eat. The prawn should be the most expensive thing among all the different food there. The size of the prawns were really small, it's like those which cost six dollars per kg at the wet market. I tried to pick the bigger ones while taking them but Jian Nan hurried me so in the end I just hastily grabbed some

The person sitting next to me at our table took twenty over fishballs until I have a fear of consuming them now after eating at least eight in a row. Yes he is Wai Yuen but at least his recommendation of the fish compensated for it. The fourth and final person who sat with me was Larry. Yes, so there you go, four greedy boys swallowing everything on the table

Ok, then there was the ice-kachang. Although I know that it is not worth a lot but I still had it as we can custom-made our dessert. As usual, the spirit of kiasuness overcame me and I took every single ingredient available regardless of size, colour or whether I like it or not. The end product was a multi-colour, ultra-sweet and overflowing bowl of dessert. I had to put the bowl on a plate to eat as the water kept flowing out constantly

Photo taken from Theresa's blog

Ok I shall end here, it was a memorable one. I wonder when will the next one take place

I took this photo last night

As you can see, the block opposite mine had a electrical failure or something resulting in blackouts in all the units

Starry starry night, paint the block in pitch-darkness...

Barack Obama's coronation of this year's Nobel Peace Prize

US President Barack Obama's coronation of this year's Nobel Peace Prize has pleasantly surprised many people. They include fellow politician George Yeo, his supporters from all around the globe and myself. So what the big deal of being surprised?

Normally, we do not have big reactions towards the winners to this international monetary prize every year. This year's recipient for the peace award has created waves of exclamations all over the world though. For me, I believe that there are two reasons to it. Obama's popularity and the fact that we humans have feelings

Barely nine months after succeeding George Bush to hold his country's highest office, Obama was awarded the prize. It is less than a year only, his star power has not faded although his hair has turned visibly grey so it is not strange that many people still remember him let alone being aware of news about him

Think Martti Ahtisaari. Who is he? He is a former president of Finland. Yes and if you have guessed it, he was last year's winner. Most probably only Finns and people from the Scandivania region. See the difference? It is not what he has/has not done but his overwhelming popularity which makes the first African-American president so surprising

The decision to award Obama was attacked in the Muslim world, an area where the president wants to forge better ties with, as undeserved. No doubt that he still has a long way to go but along that way, he can do the things which will prove that the Norwegian Nobel Committee's choice was right

And they are his extraordinary efforts to strengthen international diplomacy and cooperation between peoples

9 Oct

The jobless claims in America are at a nine-month low last week, hence easing the dreads that the recession recovery would be illusive

First-time applications for unemployment benefits decreased by 33,000 last week, the lowest ever level since January. This report has been a relief after undesirable news last week indicated that US employers cut 236000 jobs in September, much more than the market expectation

In a nutshell, to all investors out there, the economic atmosphere may look pleasant currently but I don't think that it will carry on for a lenghty period

***

Countdown forty-eight more hours before the big day arrives. Although I cannot wait to attend it, I cannot help but admit that I still feel that Seoul Garden is not the most ideal place

What to do? The date, venue, events are all confirmed a long time ago already(yes we don't do last minute stuff like some people). I wanted The Mind Cafe but the idea turned a number of people off because they dislike playing board games

Well, I have never been to Seoul Garden before anyway so it is worth the try. Just hope that this try is really worth $18.99++ excluding drinks. If it was Mind Cafe, I could have gotten the card for everyone to have a discount on the bill

Surrogates vs. Funny People

May I ask you all a question?

Surrogates vs. Funny People. Which movie would you choose to watch? And why? Please tell me your answers and opinions, thanks a lot

Anyway, for me, I would definitely pick Surrogates. I think that Funny People which stars funnyman Adam Sandler, is quite cheap. It is just a comedy where you sit inside the cinema and laugh over all the humorous scenes and leave the place with a smile after that

Surrogates looks like some action-packed movie to me. Well, anything that has Bruce Willis in it always looks action-packed. People who watched it say that it is average but I think my money will be better spent on it than Funny People

Still waiting for Jian Nan's important vote that will directly affect the result. Wai Yuen wants Funny People, hope Jian Nan will not follow him

Please give your opinion even if you are not attending like Nicholas

Thank you

Jokes

Do you want to hear a joke? I bet you do

***
Two men, an American and an Indian were sitting in a bar drinking shot after shot.

The Indian man said to the American, "You know my parents are forcing me to get married to this so called homely girl from a village whom I haven't even met once. We call this arranged marriage. I don't want to marry a woman whom I don't love...I told them that openly and now have a hell lot of family problems."

The American said, "Talking about love marriages... I'll tell you my story.
I married a widow whom I deeply loved and dated for 3 years. After a couple of years, my father fell in love with my step-daughter and so my father became my son-in-law and I became my father's father-in-law. Legally now my daughter is my mother and my wife my grandmother"

"More problems occurred when I had a son...My son is my father's brother and so he is my uncle. Situations turned worse when my father had a son. Now my father's son i.e. my brother is my grandson. Ultimately, I have become my own grand father & I am my own grandson..."

"And you say you have family problems...Gimme a break!!!"

Whole Grain

Eat more whole grains instead of white bread or white rice and it'll reduce your risk of diseases like diabetes and heart problems, says the Health Promotion Board

Established with a vision to build a nation of fit and healthy people, the HPB has changed its healthy diet pyramid recently. Previously, it recommended us to consume one serving of whole grains per day but it has since changed it to two to three

In case if you are wondering what are whole grains, they are basically cereal grains that have the outer bran layer and germ portion. In a nutshell, it is a grain with a shell

Examples of whole grain food include brown rice, whole wheat bread and popcorn. Actually, the HPB has come up with new alternatives to suit locals' tastes

Like chicken rice served with brown rice and skinless chicken. Sounds interesting to me, I wouldn't mind trying it out but if the taste is CMI, I will still stick to the traditional greasy and fragrant one

Please do not have the same mentality as me if you want to lead a healthy lifestyle

Reasons why one should eat whole grains include the fact that they have more vitamins(B & E), fibre, iron, zinc, magnesium(I sound like a chemist) other substances

Since they are rich in fibre, whole grains can enable you to have a more pleasant toilet trip when doing big business. It also makes you feel full with less calories

Finally, a whole grain diet protects you from diseases related to the heart and some type of cancers

Do I sound long-winded? Well, I have to come up with a whole and complete post as the topic is on whole grains

Ok now can someone tell me where can I get to eat chicken rice served with brown rice?

Mid Autumn Festival

Believe it or not, I actually forgotten that lanterns were part of Mid-Autumn Festival celebrations. I guess my mind was intoxicated with all those pretty looking mooncakes this year. I only recalled that there was such a thing called a lantern when I was strolling in Chinatown last night. As I was walking beside that huge temple in Chinatown, I noticed there were some objects dangling above me. I tilted my head up and realized that it was that familiar childhood toy which I had cleanly forgotten about. Yeah, we can classify it as a toy even if it requires fire to play

I still remember about eleven or twelve years ago, I was "playing" lanterns(sorry I can't think or a better verb than playing) with Siew Fang and her brother together with our dads at the playground near our blocks. Hers was a rooster and mine was some enormous yellow-coloured sphere-shaped thing. I can't really remember what took place but I think her brother was quite fed up as he was still considered underage to hold a lit up lantern

Honestly, I don't see the fun of holding a portable lighting device. Alright, I hope I didn't offend any lantern lovers here but this is just my opinion

Let's move on to mooncakes. Every year after this period, I reckon my cholesterol level will increase by a considerable amount. The reason is simple. I only eat mooncakes with egg yolks and it has gotta be double egg yolk

Anyway, if I do not eat as much as I want, I will have to wait for the earth to rotate one round around the sun before I can savour this heavenly pastry again. While we are on the topic, I think my glucose level will also multiply. Blame it all on the lotus paste and my greediness

My record of eating the most pieces of mooncakes at a time has got to be during the Mid-Autumn festival singing competition which I participated in 4 years ago. I gulped down ten pieces, I think Stanley was the runner-up with 8. Well, it's free so bu chi bai bu chi. Oh yes, I also finished two full cups of Chinese tea. You need to drink tea while eating a mooncake and looking at the moon right?

We shall stop here. I have a sudden urge to eat mooncakes again and it has gotta be double egg yolk

If you were to ask me some questions about current affairs, these would be my replies to you

Did you watch Singapore Idol last night? XXX is out! Now left 10 contestants only

I will only watch it when there are two contestants remaining

What do you think about the saga of Zhang Ziyi being turned away at a boutique in Hilton Shopping Gallery because it's closing time?

Why can't? She's only a human. What if the boutique staff need to rush somewhere urgently? Or what if the staff end up getting humiliated by the China superstar's arrogance?

What are your views on the SP student getting killed while on ITP in China?

Do not go to China for your ITP no matter what

Will you pay more to switch to Singtel now as they will be broadcasting EPL matches instead of Starhub?

If Starhub wins it back after 3 years, I will be broke man...

Have you bought mooncakes for this year's festival?

Ya and they are all eaten up already even before Mooncake Festival arrives

Ris Low.....

Who is she? Aiyah, why don't Singapore just pull out of the competition once and for all this year? It is 99% impossible for us to win it at the international level anyway

Happy Children's Day and China National Day!!!

If you are living in Singapore, you will know that your child, your friend's child, your relatives' child and everyone else's child will be able to sleep until they are satisfied today, provided if they are still in primary school

I have not celebrated Children's Day for more than half a decade although I always believe I should because people always say I am a crazy and childish person

I love this day. In primary one, everybody was given a pack of Yakult(5bottles), so shiok right? I cannot recall if I gulped all of them down within the next few days. If it happened now, I will surely do it

Next

It is National Day today for the country that had produced famous and respectable people like Mao Zedong, Deng Xiaoping, Wen Jiabao and Xiao Jian Nan

ok, the last guy is excluded

Why am I celebrating another country's birthday when their people are sort of irritating me? You should know that if you know me

Simple. It is because my ancestors come from that country so I respect the country. I only detest some of the people from there but never the country itself

My $0.02 worth on NS

So it's down to eighteen days. Eighteen more days as a full-time national serviceman, eighteen more days before I am discharged from th...
